In high school, I took advanced placement courses such as Language and Composition and British Literature. These advanced placement courses essentially prepared me for this English 101 course. I found many of the assignments and quizzes in English 101 to be fairly easy because I had similar assignments in my advanced placement courses. However, I struggled on one assignment in particular, the annotated bibliography. I believe I struggled with this assignment because I did not have any knowledge of annotated bibliographies prior to completing this assignment and I did not fully grasp the concept. Aside from assignment difficulties, I have my own writing struggles such as writer’s block and minor grammatical and punctuation errors. Writer’s block is a consistent problem for me when writing essays. I always struggle with writing my introductory paragraph because I tend to overthink and make it harder for myself. But, typically after I finish my introductory paragraph the rest of the essay is a breeze. Another issue I encounter when writing essays are minor grammatical and punctuation errors. Usually I have to have my professor, friends, or family look over my work to make sure it is grammatically correct and punctuation is used correctly. This class has definitely improved my critical thinking skills, presentation skills, and interpersonal skills. In addition, this class has improved my writing skills as far as grammatical and punctuation errors. To conclude, I hope to improve my academic writing skills, interpersonal skills, critical thinking skills, presentation skills, and become a better student and writer.
